Who Put the Bomp in the Bomp Bomp Bomp?: A Rock and Roll Mystery Part 7
July 28th, 2007 by Rich @ 6:28 pmAs I pulled myself together, I checked the computer for any word from the Owl. Just as I had suspected, I had a message waiting from her, and her intel was as good as always.
My assumptions about Michael were totally wrong, a not too infrequent occurrence, another drawback in my line of work. Yes, I know what they say about assumptions, but if you don’t make them, you go off aimlessly without any direction. It’s better to have an idea of where you’re going, as long as you are open to changing direction if the facts don’t fit.
Michael the Mouth wasn’t a musician, he was a musician’s lawyer. His client, Lester Pistolpacker, Alias Smithon Jones was a writer. He claimed he created the lyric, Bomp bomp a bomp, a dang dee dang ding dong, immortalized in such songs as “Blue Moon,” “We Go Together,” and the unforgettable “The Night My Canary Died.” Mr. Pistolpacker was suing Bart Wallace for past royalties and future earnings on all songs containing that phrase, and the amount ran into the billions. Wallace would be ruined. No wonder he wanted to get rid of the Mouth. Michael was in town to find other artists who had been ripped off by Wallace, an easy task since that included almost everyone in 6 area codes. Obviously, with so much to lose, Wallace had to take action.
But how to prove it?
I sent the Owl a thank you note, along with my sweater size, and went to find Honey. we had a lot to talk about.
