- I was born and raised in Knoxville, TN. I grew up in north Knoxville, in the Fountain City area. There wasn’t a lot of open space, but good bike-riding around the neighborhood.
- Friends and I would meet and trade Star Wars cards. Yes, uber-geeky.
- I played rec league baseball and basketball at the Fountain City ballpark until I was almost in high school.
- Two of my best friends I had were sons of Methodist ministers, and both moved away within a couple years of each other. I’ve hated the Methodist practice of moving ministers and their families every few years ever since.
- Speaking of Star Wars, another friend and I were among the first people in Knoxville to see the movie. He won tickets to a showing the day before it opened out at the old Cedar Bluff theatre. Our parents came too and saw Smoky and the Bandit while we watched Star Wars. I was the first one in the theatre (10 yrs old) and ran down the aisle when they dropped the ropes to get the best seat.
