Momma bear

Today the entire family, including grandparents, cousins, Aunt Carmen and Uncle Matt, all went out to eat at a very noisy family restaurant.  It was so loud that I couldn’t hear the people across the table from us.  A small child in the corner tooted on a toy horn and I was able to identify […]

King Kong

Last weekend we watched King Kong at my parents’ house. We watched it in full screen because my father is old stubborn. Amy spent her time playing and wandering the house so we really thought she missed most of the movie. The movie itself was only scary when they did the major gross-out bug scene. […]

no weather yet

Doug has the weather radio on and I have the tv weather on (they keep begging viewers to e-mail their pictures of weather damage), but so far it is quiet here. It’s 78 degrees and slightly breezy. The air doesn’t have that ‘heavy’ feel that tornado air usually has but I noticed that the squirrels […]

buy bread and milk

My mother’s workplace is infested with ‘bad weather coming’ horror stories and panic spreaders.  I have gotten “have you heard the weather report” phone calls and e-mails all day.  The Red Cross just sent out an emergency weather alert e-mail.  The sun is still shining and it’s 76 degrees outside.  Amy and Evan are playing […]

calm before the storm

IMG_7088 Originally uploaded by cathymccaughan. The sky is clear and blue and it’s 70 degrees outside. The weatherman is warning of hail, flooding and tornado possibilities today and tonight. It’s due in Knoxville right during my  carpool children to and from activities time (karate, etc.).  Let’s hope he’s wrong.

teen talk

Sarah has entered the land of ‘speak only in absolutes’. I am not amused.  One of us is going to require medication to make it through her adolescence. “You NEVER let me pick out my own clothes.” “You ALWAYS say no.” “EVERYBODY is going to be there.” “NOBODY but me has to have a chaperone.”

no panty lines on the Today show

I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve seen the View.  The rule in our house is that daytime television must be child-focused and a bunch of women nattering just isn’t something that children find interesting.  One of the few moments I paused on it before changing the channel, Meredith Vieira was […]

hodgepodge

I still can’t hear out of my right ear and my head is pounding for the zillionth day in a row, but that made it easier to remain calm when Amy decided to play the high school boy’s “smell my finger” game at the pede’s office this morning.  Evan has his very first ear infection […]

video cameras

I think that spouses who have a camera running should have some sort of warning light when it is running to save the other spouse embarrassment.
