Today was a half day of school for everyone. No, it wasn’t a half day for all the children who simply don’t attend on half days. Tommy’s bus driver called last night, hoping that Tommy was one of those students not attending. “He won’t need a ride tomorrow, will he?” “Umm, yes, he will. It is a ‘school day’ and they will be taking attendance.” Sarah whined and pouted like a teenage girl. “Why do we have half days? It’s so stupid. We never do work on half days.” While I don’t agree with her adjective, I do agree that there is no schoolwork done on these days. If school is open, do something with the day. If the day is going to be spent on free time, go ahead and count it as a holiday. It’s not like we will have any weather severe enough to cancel school anyway.
