Dear Hollywood,
Since you are going to bicker about this for a long time, I’m going to say what nobody else will say. When this hiatus is finally over, please DON’T bring back:
-Sarah Silverman Program
-Kenny Vs. Spenny
-At least half of the reality shows
Thank you,
Cathy

It is only day two and twelve ornaments have been destroyed so far. The adults are going to pack away all glass ornaments until Taz Evan is in kindergarten. The box will be sealed with a lock that won’t open until Christmas 2010. That’s the same year we will finally get to have a new school board representative, so it will be a very celebratory year. The girl children will not like this decision. Amy lovingly decorated the tree with lots of “oohs” and “aahs” about the “cuteness” of each ornament. I need ideas for unbreakable holiday decorations. Please send me a link to any unbreakable ornament pictures or patterns that don’t take forever to craft. Something simpler than Martha Stewart, but nicer than toilet paper tubes. I know it’s Friday and everyone is preoccupied with shopping lists and football games, but I’m really tired of sweeping up glass shards.

Day one. One pink ball shattered. Many tears shed by Amy.
Update: Two balls and one elf destroyed. Aunt Jeni suggests we make felt ornaments.

If you smile and say please, the pizza place that is named after a tile game will give you an empty pizza box free of charge. They are great for getting delicate projects to and from school.

I’m wearing real clothes instead of jammies today! My nose is red and the skin is peeling off, but I can breathe through one side. It feels like an elephant is sitting on my chest, but I have the energy to do more than sit on the couch. Food has flavor again and it doesn’t mix with the mucus and get rejected by my body. I’m even planning to venture out of the house thanks to a guilt attack from the female teenager. “I got my mid-terms today and I have straight A’s. Am I worthy of a trip to the dollar store for craft supplies?’
Things I learned while sick:
1. Lifetime Network plays “Beauty Shop” over and over again.
2. No matter how sick I am, the toddler is still my responsibility.
3. When I die, my family will stop wearing clean clothes.
4. My dog loves me more than anyone else in the house loves me.
5. There should be a “tylenol happy” for the crabbiness of sickness.

politics
I am still sick and my mood is less than pleasant. Instead of describing my physical woes, I think I’ll annoy everyone with political thoughts. It’s the last few days of NaBloPoMo and everyone participating is getting a bit surly anyway. Yesterday afternoon, Newscoma (if we’re not related, we should be) posted concerns over some celebrity endorsements of politicians.
“The upcoming presidential race is not about the battle of the divas, but about getting people who don’t traditionally vote to go to the polls for a president with a big fancy (D) next to their name.”
I admitted in her comments that I’ve stopped caring about getting the people who don’t and won’t vote to visit the polls. I think that going to the polls and voting for the person who spent the most on commercials or the person somebody else told you to choose is worse than not voting at all. Today, Newscoma elaborated more on her thoughts and linked to Dork Nation (love that title).
“It is likely that Winfrey helps Obama by bringing out the dead.”
I don’t want the dead voting any more than I want the local Republican Women’s Club “helping” everyone in nursing homes to vote. If you can’t or won’t think for yourself, don’t vote. This next link is a leap off-topic, so let me explain. This is a quote from an article about an upcoming movie that I really want to go see and the uproar surrounding the movie. It is not a quote about politics. It is a quote that I want you to apply to politics.
“The books show a decided preference for knowledge over blind faith, questioning over childish acceptance of what you’re taught, adulthood over childhood, awareness over naïve innocence and kinship with all of humanity over feeling more important than than others because of your religion.”
Stop dragging people to the polls who just don’t care. The result is representation by politicians who don’t represent anyone but themselves.

I am typing with one hand so that the other hand can hold a tissue under my continuously leaking nose. While worshiping my beloved box of tissues this morning, I remembered a babysitter from my childhood. She wasn’t a stare at the television or talk on the telephone babysitter. She sat on the front porch and made flowers from tissues. I remember bringing her every box of tissues in the house, even the unopened boxes hidden under the sink. I was very disappointed when she ran out of tissues. I was even more disappointed that my mother returned home and expressed no joy at the wonderful tissue flowers. I couldn’t understand why that babysitter never sat for us again.
I understand now.

1. Feel a funny tickle in nose.
2. Rub nose to make it go away.
3. Tickle grows to impending sneeze.
4. Wait for sneeze.
5. Pressure in head builds, but still no sneeze.
6. Stare at lights, pant, visualize sneeze and beg for sneeze to arrive.
7. Anticipate brains leaking out ears and nose from falsely promised sneeze.
8. Ka-chew!
9. Oh, that felt GREAT! I want to sneeze again.

I have nothing but whines today. I’m going to blow my sore nose again and watch Max & Ruby all day with Evan. I’ll be back tomorrow.
