the girl who cried wolf

There once was a little girl who constantly cried wolf. She threatened to kill herself if she didn’t get her way and people would swarm to her rescue only to be screamed at by the girl. Then, she erased her threats and pretended they never happened. Over and over the little girl would wail and moan about her emotional pain and then deny her complaints. Okay, she’s not really a little girl. I was married when I was her age, but she is so naive and child-like that she appears much younger than she really is. Still, this behavior continued until one day when the girl was so very unhappy and really needed a friend, but no one answered her calls or replied to her blog threats. She whined and whimpered even more that she always knew she was all alone, completely oblivious to the fact that she herself had made that prediction come true.

“The person who tries to live alone will not succeed as a human being. His heart withers if it does not answer another heart. His mind shrinks away if he hears only the echoes of his own thoughts and finds no other inspiration.” Pearl Buck

  1. Words to live by. Answering another heart is a risky and painful process. What cowards we’ve become! Thank you for the inspiration. I think I’ll go find some new hearts to wrestle.
    Sincerely, the Spoiled Spinster
