Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are cautiously moving forward. My favorite hour of television has returned. It is my motivation to get the upstairs clean and the children’s things ready for morning. It is my reward, my time-out and my calm down. Sans writers, the two shows have a slightly different feeling. One of them has an edgier sense of humor that is obvious softened by the writers. One of them really “feels” like improv. One of them is incredibly bright and it appears that the writers dumb him down slightly for average Americans. One of them is amazingly talented, but focused by the writers. When the writers return, I hope the shows don’t go backwards, but make another leap forward. We won’t survive the upcoming elections without a sense of humor.
