This is the landscape in the Natchez Trace area of middle TN. Trees and fields everywhere you look. In another season, there would be crops of feed corn here and there, but it’s still exactly as I remembered it. Trees and fields. The twisty 2 lane back roads still show the daily tractor abuse and mobile homes are tucked between the trees with chickens roaming free by the roadsides. I still feel overwhelmed by the memories that washed over me during the long drive to and from the cemetery. I know that I will never be there again. My mother will return for Decoration Sundays, but I am closing that chapter of the novel that is my life as soon as I write down a few random thoughts.
