would you like butter on that

More than 24 hours after my mother first settled in her hospital room, I was crawling on the floor to adjust her beer cooler iceman wires and I found a piece of popcorn. A big, white popped piece of corn was just under the bed. I wasn’t disturbed by the fact that there had been no popcorn eating since we arrived in the room. I was and still am completely creeped out by the fact that room was cleaned after the previous resident and had been lightly cleaned at least twice since my mother’s arrival and nobody even noticed that popcorn. It’s not the popcorn itself that bothers me so much as the knowledge that if that popcorn could go so long undetected, there were way, way too many microscopic nasties left from the previous room inhabitants. Yuck.
