learned helplessness

I think it would be easier to just do my father’s laundry than to teach him how to do his own. I also think it would be easier for him to just visit a cafeteria with all the other seniors than trying to teach him to buy groceries and prepare his own food.

    If he has been depending on you mother to do these things all these years, there is NO CHANCE of you “teaching” him to do these things and retaining an sense of sanity… Plus it will take a lot longer.

  2. There’s hope. My dad blew me off on the phone the other day because the dryer timer was going off and he “had to hang things up before they got wrinkled”.
